Table 01 — Territory · reading your opponent

SOROE

Colour and number, fought over territory

Seven territories run down the middle of the board. Each side plays three cards onto a territory, and the stronger hand takes it. Take three in a row, or more than half of them, and you win. No dice, no hidden draws you cannot plan around — both hands are open from the start.

How to play

How a game goes

01

Pick a card

Your hand is always six cards. Tap one along the bottom of the screen. Number cards come in four or five colours, 1 to 10.

02

Play it on your side

Tap the bottom half of a glowing territory. Each side of a territory holds three cards, and the bottom half is yours.

03

Draw one back

Take a card from the number deck, or from the special deck. Your hand goes back to six and the turn passes.

04

Take the territory

Once three cards are down on both sides, the hands are compared and the stronger one takes it. If your opponent can no longer win it whatever they play, it is settled early.

The hands, strongest first

  • Colour run: three in a row, all one colour (red 4-5-6)
  • Three of a kind: the same number three times
  • Flush: three of one colour, numbers in any order
  • Run: three in a row, colours mixed
  • High cards: none of the above. The totals decide it

Special cards

  • Playing one uses your whole turn, instead of an ordinary card
  • Anything counts as any colour and number you like
  • Remove takes one of their cards off an undecided territory
  • Block makes one territory off limits to them next turn
  • You may only hold one, and there is a wait before the next

04Hold the special cardOne at a time, with a wait after. Spend it where it decides a territory.
FAQ

Common questions

How many people play SOROE?

Two. On your own you play the computer; with a friend you share a four-letter room code and play online. Three and four players use the free-for-all Royale rules.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes. It runs in any browser on a phone, tablet or computer. It is free, with no sign-up and nothing to install.

Is there any luck in it?

You draw cards, so there is some. But both hands are visible from the start and there are no dice, so most of the game is reading your opponent.

What is the difference between Quick and Full?

Quick uses four colours and five territories and ends sooner. Full uses five colours and seven territories and runs longer.
