ZURASHI

Slide the tiles, match the centre

A 5×5 board holds six colours, four tiles each, and one empty space. Slide the tiles next to the gap, one at a time, until the centre 3×3 matches the pattern. The outer sixteen squares can be any colour. Solo, your time goes on the national best. Online, everyone gets the same board and pattern at the same moment, and first to three rounds wins.

How to play

How a game goes

01

Read the pattern

A paper slip shows a 3×3 colour pattern. That is the target. The board is different every time, and everyone in a room gets the same board and the same pattern.

02

Tap a tile next to the gap

Only tiles directly above, below, left or right of the empty space can move. Tap one and it slides into the gap. On a computer the arrow keys work too.

03

Match the centre 3×3

The moment the nine centre squares match the pattern, you are done. The outer ring does not matter. The screen shows how many of the nine are right, so you always know how close you are.

04

Race the clock

Solo, your time goes against the national top five. Online, the first to finish takes the round, and first to three rounds wins. A round lasts 120 seconds at most; if nobody finishes, it is void and the next one starts.

Tips

Tips for winning

01Bring the gap to the middleNothing can be placed until the empty space is near the centre. Move it there first.
02One colour at a timeDo not look at all nine squares. Pick one colour from the pattern and bring those tiles in.
03The ring is your dumping groundThe outer sixteen squares can be anything. Push the tiles you do not need out there.
04Keep movingYou do not need a clean solution. Take the line where your hand never stops.
FAQ

Common questions

How many people play ZURASHI?

One to six. Solo, your time goes on the national best. With friends, create a room and send the four-letter code; whoever enters it lands on the same board.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes. It runs in any browser on a phone, tablet or computer. It is free, with no sign-up and nothing to install. On a computer the arrow keys work too.

Does the outer ring have to match as well?

No. Only the centre 3×3 is checked. The sixteen squares around it can be any colour.

Does everyone get the same board online?

Yes. Everyone in the room gets an identical board and pattern and starts at the same moment, so there is no luck in it — only speed.
